Drawing in the Sun

Last summer I treated myself to a whole box of fabulous paper called 'Fabriano Medioevalis'. I have been marveling over the texture and tactile pleasure of this box of paper for quite some time. So, summer in full swing, I finally dove in and used some. It is a pleasure to draw on (Liquitex ink in Prussian Blue) with a very fine pen nib. Yes, that means dipping the pen - which I have a passion for... love dipping into ink. These are just a few drawings I've begun to add color to... it's always a bit dicey to draw when it's been awhile. But, oh so fun and better than the best escapist summer novel :)

Summer Patio Vibe

Nothing like summer patio time. Here are a few new drawings I've done in the past few days... the top one is with a very fine tip pen, the lower... a brush tip pen. (can never quite decide which one I prefer.) These will be going in the etsy shop, hopefully tonight!

As you can see I've been blessed with a new camera - thanks to my brother who found 'a good one' for me. Ahhh, I'm so relieved. It's rough to be without a camera!

Knightley update:

The youngest corgi dodged surgery but was in the emergency pet hospital over the 4th of July wkend. He finally passed (with much treatment and coaxing) some bone shards and later the big offender: half of a Pink Pearl eraser! Such a problem child he is... he's on the mend but we're still wondering what trouble he'll find next.

Fat or Thin Ink Pen?

Had a great time unwinding and drawing yesterday on my favorite paper. (Arches Cover in cream... can't get it locally :( Couldn't find the Pitt India ink brush pen, so I used a skinny (.005) Pigma pen and did the lower cafe drawing. Later, I did find the brush pen and did the upper boulangerie drawing. (both will have color added) I'm going to stick to the brush pens... it gives the drawing a different quality than the ultra thin line. Amazing what a difference size makes! What do you like to use - thick or thin?

Chapel Chairs

A new little drawing I did last night. My daughter fell asleep early (rarely happens!) so I was able to do some drawing and painting. Was so attracted to the 'crowd' of empty chairs... somber yet inviting. The bottom photo is the start of a picnic party painting. (8 x 10" very small for me so, it's a challenge.)

Feels so good to get back into a groove. It's hard to resume a routine though when reality has pushed you in a different direction. Just now starting to get to work after a summer and fall full of family and friends staying with us. Nothing like a quiet house to get the creative juices flowing again. :) Wonder why transitions are so difficult no matter how old you get?!

Lazy Susan's Cafe

Another India Ink drawing on Reeves BFK paper (I heart that stuff... and Arches Cover paper even more!) Naturally, it is unfinished but close. Just a few more details. Memories of a sunny walk through town after day on the beach. I can't believe school is starting September 1st. Where did the summer go?? I'm secretly looking forward to autumn but dreading winter.
