I love doing sketches on the BIG drawing paper. No rules, no commitments... pure freedom. Kind of like the dogs in the off-leash park :)
There are several more on my flikr page. I've been working all week on finishing up some woodcuts and re-working them after printing. Soon, will be framing up all the stuff for the drive over to Port Angeles, WA for the April show at Itty Bitty Buzz.

Now I'm off to walk the Corgis in the sunshine... happy Saturday.

Today I'm catching up on Sketchbook Thursday. These are just drawing paper and buckle like crazy when painted on but I like the idea of just painting my drawings without any planning or rules. I really want to do a big painting of the last drawing. Happy Tuesday.

A tree lined street I always pass on my walks.

It's springtime in my head... can you tell? I'm excited to report that daylight savings time is approaching on March 8th and Spring Equinox is March 20th... there is hope on the horizon :)

I have some fun new sketches /ideas for an upcoming show. We need to have at least one piece that has an East meets West or Asian theme. This has been a challenge... because I don't want to be too literal. (some of the ideas may pop up on the blog soon!) I'm carving some mini woodblock prints and plan to print them on linen. (Soon to be mini lavender sachets for the etsy shop.) I'm off to sip some chamomile tea.

Lady Sketches

A few days ago I did a bunch of quick paint sketches on big paper... planning on doing more paintings of ladies on wood. Guess this will be another series.! Usually I don't do them on paper first... but I'm trying to do more warm up exercises. If I had more time, I'd love to pour out my heart in a sketchbook but right now in mommyland... there's not enough time!!! Someday, though :)

Portraits

Cal Champ... barely begun

Last night, I sketched out this lady on 'big paper' with watered down paint. I liked the pose but didn't have the patience for the hands... I need to do some hand studies, it's been too long since I've really drawn them! She's got these deep set, large kind of 'bulgy' eyes that I really like. I hope to capture them in a better way as I work through the painting. So, this is the California State Champion - Tennis. (Inspired by my grandmother as well as my father who both held the title - respectively- back in the day.)

I had a chance to work this morning on my new lady...I like the purple, my daughter's room is painted a few shades lighter. (painted by moi, 9 months pregnant and in a tizzy of nesting!) Anyway, I think it's a great shade - it's got a bit of yellow in it to neutralize and white with a hint of black. Really enjoying painting her!
