Stevie Coming Out of the Winter Blues

Here's another winter madness painting . It's early spring - she's still wearing sweaters and not looking too happy just yet. The checkerboard was just an experiment.... gonna paint over it. The flowers are called Leucadendrons! (from the genus, Protea) Finally found out the name - at the mom and pop grocery store where I buy them. Will make the bangs a bit longer and tweak her a bit more...
PS Added a new print to the shop today... Night Time Bath!

Sketchbook Thursday

Wreath on Gates

More Purple Cone Flowers
A tree lined street I always pass on my walks.
It's springtime in my head... can you tell? I'm excited to report that daylight savings time is approaching on March 8th and Spring Equinox is March 20th... there is hope on the horizon :)
I have some fun new sketches /ideas for an upcoming show. We need to have at least one piece that has an East meets West or Asian theme. This has been a challenge... because I don't want to be too literal. (some of the ideas may pop up on the blog soon!) I'm carving some mini woodblock prints and plan to print them on linen. (Soon to be mini lavender sachets for the etsy shop.) I'm off to sip some chamomile tea.

A Couple of New ACEOs

Here are a few little ladies I've finally finished... it's amazing how many did not turn out! Oh well, the paper is small, guess there's not that much lost but time. ACEOs are quite a challenge for me because they are so small (3.5 x 4.5") Anyway, I've many more to draw and paint. It feels so nice to get out the watercolors and paint on such a cold midwinter day... the warmth and brilliance of the wet paint on white paper lifts my spirits. We went to the local conservatory again and they had plenty of bulbs - daffodils and hyacinth... cyclamen, mums, tulips etc. It was truly a feast for winter-weary 'white out' eyes. (that could be the start of a poem! ha ha) Naturally, my camera was at home as we stopped there on a whim. But, next time I'll take photos. These ladies will soon land in my shop.
