Tree Church

As we were driving to 'visit the ducks' as we often do at our local park, we drove through the tree lined streets of Manito Blvd. The leaves have finally come out and it's a bit surprising to see all the green. My son (5) says from the back seat, "Oh, it's a tree church, Mama." I was amazed and so impressed. It's kind of like what my fave art history professor used to say... "Throughout time, people walk into a cathedral and they just get it." (they feel small, humbled, surrounded by something much greater...) I just love those little moments and wanted to share it. Happy Friday :)

Afternoon Walk

I couldn't resist taking the camera on a walk yesterday to try & capture the sunlight glowing through the colored leaves. Pushing the stroller through the leaves, my daughter
added the sound effects, 'crunch, crunch, crunch!' She's jumped in her first pile of leaves too... love all those 'firsts', there's nothing like experiencing it through her eyes. It's gold!

Starting to mull over the ideas for ornaments and xmas cards... hard to think about that when we can still be outside!

Painting on Linen

Here's my first painting on linen. Wish I could say it is oil on linen but... my kids are usually mucking around in the studio when I'm there (in the daytime). I can't handle the mess of oil paint/solvent that a child has made and the damage it can cause to them and the house! Someday I'll get back to my oils!!
Anyway, I bought this Belgian linen in Victoria BC at a fabulous art store called Opus... they have a great selection. It felt like quite a splurge... especially when I was building and stretching the linen on the stretcher bars. (I build all my canvases, I consider it part of my process.)

This painting is unfinished but I'm getting closer. It's been through some radical changes and I'm ready to get back to it.

Trees in a Chair Forest

I got my battery charger back, yay! I've been working a lot while my camera was out of commission... Now I have more new things to show off and I always welcome your comments. What do you think I should do with these new felt pieces? Purses, wall hangings or pillows??? I've made purses in the past but am wondering if a change is needed. I'd love to hear your opinions if you'd like to leave a comment.

Little Trees

Tree Specimens

I spent most of the day yesterday making several needle felted pieces. I love geometric and organic shapes and repetition... here's an example! I know it's a bit early, but I'm already thinking about fall and all the colors. I want to make more in that palette... it's my favorite season.
